Deadlines? What are they?

Every one talks about deadlines, last dates etc. but has anyone actually tried to explain what deadlines are. Me, with a curious Donkey pea-brain decided to go to the forlorn Dictionary.com and search for the meaning. The three meanings mentioned for the deadline were-
1. the time by which something must be finished or submitted; the latest time for finishing something: a five o’clock deadline.

2. a line or limit that must not be passed.

3. (formerly) a boundary around a military prison beyond which a prisoner could not venture without risk of being shot by the guards.
The first two definitions would appeal to the normal human beings but I could totally relate myself with the third definition. In case of B schools deadlines are boundaries around the prison, and you are the prisoners. The time you decide to cross those boundaries, your admission to a B School is cancelled. It’s the same as being shot by the guards.

Say your first deadline is on 20th October 5 p.m. BST, this doesn’t mean that you will wait till the 19th October 5 p.m. BST to send your application. You bet me Murphy would hit in such situations more often than not. Your CD, internet, courier, printer, post office, everything goes wrong that that every moment. So do not invite panic and apply way before the deadline.

Once you submit your application, schools need time to review your essays, transcripts, scores, resumes etc. and make a separate record for each student. After that process is completed by the administration, they give you an online status of your application. There would times when B schools may ask you to resubmit a few documents, in case the documents are non complaint with the school’s requirements. If you don’t apply early, you may end up messing a lot of things and hence missing upon the opportunity in your hand. And mind you, B School Deadlines Don’t Change. They don’t.
